Special Vlog - August 17, 2020
So, I apparently forgot to link last week’s vlog here. If you follow the blog, I hope you’ll consider following my revived YouTube channel. I do have a good excuse for forgetting to link last week’s vlog, my eldest daughter got married.
As you might guess from the photo above, there was a few questions about her beautiful dress (with pockets). So, I did a little interview with Jina to answer the common questions about the dress.
Jina’s wedding bouquet. Made from vintage white kimono silk lining and extra fabric from Jina’s wedding dress.
And you know I made my daughter a wedding bouquet too. I hope you’ll check out the video. There will be one more about the wedding. I interviewed Jina and Grant about the long rollercoaster of a ride that they had in making this wedding happen during the era of COVID.

Burgundy Cream - Keepsake Bouquet
Burgundy and Cream Keepsake Bouquet | Thea Starr
I know I sound like a very broken record at this point. BUT a lot of time is invested into my other company 6 by 6 Arts most of my days and wedding planning too. I have set aside time to do what I love to do, make kanzashi. Particularly wedding bouquets. While I have a few readymade on hand at The Handmade Showroom in downtown Seattle, I haven't had much available online. I remedied that a little by listing this very timeless Burgundy and Cream Bouquet. I will post more selections as they become ready.
Since it is wedding season, I have pulled from my stash some kimono to deconstruct and begin the process of kanzashi making in different palettes. I am truly delighted when I find a beautiful fabric at the bottom of my storage bin and know that I can give it a new life.
Vintage furisode kimono with heavy embroidery.
*Full disclosure* and you already know this if you've been following me a while, I am fabric junkie. Since the day many years ago when I received a discarded kimono as a gift for quilting, I've taken a certain pride of bringing these beautiful pieces back to life. Out of all the things I do creatively, that makes me the happiest. How about you fellow crafter/makers out there? What do you create that puts a smile on your face? I'd really love to hear.

Custom Keepsake Wedding Bouquets
I am in my 12th year in the business of making handmade flowers. One thing that never gets old is creating custom keepsake wedding bouquets.
I get an array of requests on color palettes. Everything from the subtle ivory palette to the bright bold reds. The bouquet featured in this post is a recent bouquet I completed. The bride wanted a pink and orange palette. Perfect choice for vintage kimono fabrics.
Vintage fabrics add an additional story to a special occasion. A bit of history and a whole lot of uniqueness.
My bouquets can be kept forever or passed on. It's kind of wonderful. While I love florists and their services. (I use them frequently for my children's formal events.) Real flowers that have been preserved never look quite as good as they did in their moment. Many of my brides have told me how excited they are to keep their bouquets to pass on to their children. I'm really proud to offer this type of service.
Autumn Harvest Bouquet - Pageant style - will be available at The Handmade Showroom later this month.
Later this month (October 2015), a selection of my keepsake bouquets and complimentary wedding accessories will be available to purchase in person at The Handmade Showroom at Pacific Place in downtown Seattle. Many will be autumn and winter themed.
On a personal note, my fiancé and I recently settled on our wedding colors. I'm excited to share the process of making my own bouquet and wedding flowers.
